Punjab Digital Insurance Verification 2026: No Insurance, No Route Permit for Buses & Vans

Lahore, April 3, 2026 – In a major move to improve road safety and protect passengers, the Government of Punjab has launched a fully digital system for public transport insurance verification. The new platform integrates the province’s route permit system with the Motor Insurance Repository of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

This integration, formally launched at SECP in collaboration with the Central Depository Company (CDC) and the Insurance Association of Pakistan, aims to end the era of fake or missing insurance for commercial vehicles.

Why Punjab Introduced Digital Insurance Verification

Public transport vehicles including buses, vans, and wagons are now required to have valid third-party motor insurance before any route permit is issued or renewed. The system allows real-time digital checking, so authorities can instantly confirm insurance coverage through the CDC repository.

This step comes amid growing concerns over road accidents and the need to provide quick financial protection to victims, drivers, and passengers.

Key Features of the New Digital System

  • Real-time verification of third-party insurance
  • Automatic link between route permits and valid insurance
  • Fully digitized process for faster permit issuance and renewal
  • Reduced chances of fake insurance documents

Transport operators must now ensure their vehicles carry active insurance; without it, route permits will not be granted. The initiative covers all public transport vehicles operating across Punjab.

Benefits for Passengers and Operators

The Punjab digital insurance verification system is expected to bring more transparency and accountability. Passengers will feel safer knowing that operators are properly insured, while genuine insurance companies and compliant transport owners will benefit from a level playing field.

Officials believe this digital enforcement will significantly reduce uninsured vehicles on the roads and help accident victims receive timely compensation.

What Public Transport Owners Should Do Now

If you operate buses, vans, or other public transport in Punjab, make sure your third-party insurance is up to date. Visit your nearest transport office or check the status through the MTMIS portal to avoid any disruption in route permits.
